Information for Authors
YOUR HEALTH PRESS is dedicated to publishing orphan health topics traditional publishers ignore, due to controversy, stigma, rarity or perceived poor market. The books we publish are geared towards providing the consumer with information in plain language.

YOUR HEALTH PRESS utilizes on-demand publishing technology, a unique process making a book available for retail sale taking advantage of on-demand manufacturing and internet marketing. On-demand technology essentially eliminates an important step in traditional publishing: the print run. This allows us to print any number of copies which allows us more leeway with books that might otherwise never get published because of perceived poor market.

YOUR HEALTH PRESS titles are sold via online retailers like Trafford Publishing, Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Chapters. Since bulk ordering is always an option, many of our titles make their way into schools, health food stores and other specialty markets.

Book Proposal Submissions
If you have a book manuscript or idea, YOUR HEALTH PRESS encourages you to submit a proposal package. In considering a proposal we require the following content:

1. A detailed table of contents with a chapter outline that includes between one to three descriptive paragraphs for each chapter.

2. A sample of your work–i.e., an introduction or a complete chapter of your proposed book. Please ensure that your submitted sample is as representative of your writing as possible. If graphs, illustrations or charts are important to your manuscript, please provide samples.

3. Your complete resume including all of your writing/publishing experience.

4. An in-depth outline explaining why you are writing the book and for whom. Briefly describe the content of your book and answer the following questions when completing your outline:

i) Why is this subject important?

ii) What topics does your book cover that haven't been covered before?

iii) Why should your book be published?

iv) What need will the book address?

v) What do you hope to accomplish?

vi) Who is your intended audience? (Is your book for a professional audience? Would this be a book that a health practitioner might provide to patients?)

vii) What makes you the best person to write this book (especially if you are a first time author)?

viii) What other books have been published on the subject (include author, publisher, and date of publication)? What are their strengths and weaknesses and how will your book differ?

ix) Can you suggest anyone in the editing, medical or publishing fields (e.g., healthcare workers, magazine editors, other authors) who would be competent to read and review your proposal or manuscript, and who could write a foreword or a back jacket quote?

x) What is the proposed length of your final typed manuscript and when will your manuscript be complete?

Please submit your proposal package as a single document. Microsoft Word Format is preferable however RTF and PDF documents will also be accepted.

Manuscript Production Process
All proposals are carefully reviewed and evaluated. Our goal is to make a positive contribution to health literature with books that meet the needs of the audience with well presented, valuable and easy-to-read information. Each submission will be replied to whether it is accepted, needs work, or is denied. It can take up to eight weeks to review a book proposal.

Once your book proposal has been approved, we will enter into a publishing agreement, and then set a deadline for delivery of a final draft. In some cases we also work with authors in advance of that date to develop an acceptable draft manuscript. This is called a developmental edit.

After delivering a draft manuscript (we will supply style guidelines if needed), your work will undergo a structural (or substantive) edit, as well as a copy edit and two or three rounds of proofs.

At the copyediting stage, your copyedited manuscript will also undergo a "medical review" by a medical practitioner for comments. Those comments will be considered and incorporated into the final draft.

You will see the edited manuscript for your final approval before it is typeset.

The text and cover design are created by professional designers with input from the editorial, production and marketing staff. After editing and design are complete, the book goes to the typesetter who will develop a final proof of the book. At this stage you will be invited to view the book’s front and back jacket design via digital file, and to approve the back jacket text and author biography.

The time it takes to complete the production process varies in length depending on quality and length of manuscript, complexity of content etc.

Marketing
At YOUR HEALTH PRESS our individually tailored marketing plan is designed to capitalize on the uniqueness of each book and it's intended market. We also realize that you, as an author, can contribute to the marketing effort and we encourage you communicate your ideas.
